Barenaked Ladies sing The Big Bang Theory Theme for Stephen Colbert

Barenaked Ladies joined Stephen Colbert to perform their theme from The Big Bang Theory to mark the end of the show.

The Big Bang Theory has come to an end after 12 seasons making it the longest running sitcom in history (so far). ‘Cheers’ is currently in second place. It ran for 11 seasons and 275 episodes. ‘The Big Bang Theory’ last 12 seasons and produced 279 episodes.

The Big Bang Theory record will be broken by ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ which has had 144 episodes over 13 seasons and is going into a 14th season.

Two and a Half Men ran for 12 seasons and produced 262 episodes.

Other long-running sitcoms include Frasier (264 episodes), Married With Children (259 episodes), Happy Days (255 episodes), The Jeffersons (253 episodes), My Family (120 episodes)

The theme song for The Big Bang Theory was written by Ed Robertson of Canadian band Barenaked Ladies. Producers Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady asked Ed to write the song after attending one of their shows.

The cast of The Big Bang Theory also joined Stephen Colbert to talk about the series.
