Jimmy and Jane Barnes and family are fine this morning and out of danger after being just 50 metres from a bomb blast in Bangkok overnight.
The Barnes’ were staying at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel. Jimmy, Jane, daughter Elly-May and her husband Liam and son had just left the hotel with friend Alan Parkhouse and were heading to a restaurant for dinner when the explosion occurred.
Moments earlier they made a decision to not walk past the Shrine because of the number of tourists on the street at the time. The decision to cross the street via the overhead bridge may have saved their lives. The overhead bridge was right over the scene of the explosion. The Barnes family were just metres off the bridge when the explosion occurred.
Last night Jane wrote on Facebook, “We were 50m away from bomb blast in Bangkok earlier tonight. Lucky we weren’t any closer. safely back in our hotel room now. Other bombs defused. So terrible, so sad.”
This morning Jane Barnes posted this image on Twitter:
