Barry Manilow is using the miracles of modern technology to sing with eleven artists who admires but are no longer with us on his upcoming album My Dream Duets. The set will be released on October 27 via Verve.
On Duets, Manilow has gone beyond the standard “add vocals to the original recording”, instead choosing to do all new, updated arrangements for each of the songs and then “importing” the original vocals into the new mix.
Manilow said of the process “The songs have all new arrangements and sound as if they were recorded yesterday. The album is a miracle. It’s been a huge undertaking, musically and technically.”
He added, “Having the opportunity to record these legendary standards with artists whom I admire so much was really a dream come true.”
Among Barry’s duet “partners” are Jimmy Durante, Louis Armstrong, Frankie Lymon and Mama Cass along with a few who have left us in more recent years such as Whitney Houston, John Denver and Andy Williams.
David Foster, Chairman of the Verve Music Group, said “The way he has taken the classic solo performances of the many iconic artists on My Dream Duets, transforming them into songs arranged for two voices, is an incredible artistic accomplishment. This album is really a crowning achievement in an unprecedented career spanning many decades. I couldn’t be more proud to welcome Barry to the Verve family.”
