The BBC has confirmed that it will not play ‘Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead’ in its weekly countdown this week because it finds the motive behind the sales “distasteful”.
In a statement, BBC Radio 1 controller explained, “The BBC finds this campaign distasteful but does not believe the record should be banned. On Sunday, the Radio 1 Chart Show will contain a news item explaining why the song is in the charts during which a short clip will be played.”
Thatcher ruled Britain from 1979-1990 and was nicknamed The Iron Lady by the Russians for her policies that ripped Great Britain in two.
‘Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead’ should settle at number 3 this week in the UK after spending most of the week at number one on the British iTunes chart. It has sold 29,000 copies since the death of Thatcher.
