Beck has managed to score his career best on the U.K. Albums chart with a number 4 debut of Morning Phase.
The singer had his first top ten album six years ago when Morning Guilt went to number 9 although his previous album, The Information, could possibly have been a huge chart hit but the Official Charts Company deemed it ineligible after it was released with four random sticker sets which were to be used to create your own album cover. The company felt it gave Beck an “unfair sales advantage” if people were to buy more than one copy looking for a specific set.
Neneh Cherry debuts at 41 with Blank Project, her first solo set since 1996. It is the lowest charting of her four solo studio albums.
The deluxe version of Morrissey’s Your Arsenal debuts 49. The original release of the album in 1992 went to number 4.
Bastille stays atop the Albums chart with Bad Blood followed by the Arctic Monkey’s AM, Ellie Goulding’s Halcyon, Beck and Beyonce.
Pharrell returns to number 1 for the third time with Happy, making it only the third record to hit the top of the British charts on three separate occasions. It also happened in 1953 with Frankie Laine’s I Believe and in 1957 with Guy Mitchell’s Singing the Blues. The Official Charts Company also reports that Pharrell is only the second artist to have three million selling singles in a twelve month period, the others being Get Lucky with Daft Punk and Blurred Lines with Robin Thicke. The other artist to pull off the feat? The Beatles.
Pharrell is followed on the Singles chart by last weeks number 1, Sam Smith and Money on My Mind, and Rather Be by Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne.
Veteran artists topping other British charts:
