Beeb Birtles, the original bass player for Zoot and then later guitarist for Little River Band, has issued about the death of his former bandmate Darryl Cotton.
Beeb posted to his Facebook page, “It is with a heavy heart that I bring you the news about the passing of my best friend, Darryl Cotton. He died in his sleep at 7 a.m. July 27th surrounded by his wife, Cheryl and his daughter, Amy and his son, Tim. Please keep them in your prayers at this sad time”.
Beeb, Darryl, Rick Springfield and Rick Brewer formed Zoot in Adelaide in 1965. They disbanded in 1971 after scoring a national hit in Australia with a cover of The Beatles ‘Eleanor Rigby’.
Rick Springfield released a statement about Darryl earlier today.
Darryl died this morning (July 27, 2012) in Melbourne after a short battle with liver cancer. He was 62.
