X Factor winner Ben Haenow officially has the number one song in the UK for Christmas.
With stiff competition from other Christmas contenders from Band Aid 30 and The Peace Collective, an attempted derailing from Iron Maiden, a wildcard from The Wealdstone Raider, a retro hit from The Pogues and a bonafide pop presence from Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, Haenow’s ‘Something I Need’ took the top spot regardless selling 214,000 copies in the past week.
Proceeds from the Haenow hit will benefit the charity Together For Short Lives.
The Official Charts Company of the UK report that Band Aid 30 ‘Do They Know Its Christmas’ sold 313,000 in its first week back in November, making it the fastest selling song of the year.
