Mondo Rock had 15 hit records in Australia between 1980 and 1991.
At a time when active Australian acts included INXS, Midnight Oil, Icehouse and The Angels, Mondo Rock were challenging every top Australian act to chart position.
Although Mondo Rock’s origin dates to the late 70s, it was the release of the second album ‘Chemistry’ that took Mondo Rock from an alternative band to mainstream success. ‘Chemistry’ alone generated four hit songs ‘Chemistry’, ‘Cool World’, ‘State of the Heart’ and ‘Summer of ‘81’, all now considered Oz Rock classics.
After ‘Chemistry’ peaked at no 2 on the Australian album chart, ‘Nouvo Mondo’ a year later again went Top 10 and generated another classic in ‘No Time’ followed by ‘The Modern Bop’ (no 2, 1984) and again more classics ‘Come Said The Boy’ and ‘Baby Wants To Rock’.
One time Aztecs drummer, now Mondo Rock member, Gil Matthews has remastered the Mondo Rock catalogue for the ‘Besto Mondo’ collection.
