Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong has teamed up with Norah Jones to record an album of Everly Brothers … seriously.
No, it is not April Fool’s Day. This has really happened.
Armstrong and Jones have done a complete cover of the 1958 Everly Brothers ‘Songs Our Daddy Taught Us’ album.
The original album was also a covers record so here we have Armstrong and Jones singing songs by Tex Ritter and Gene Autry as well as a few originals by The Everlys.
Billie Joe Armstrong and Norah Jones met 10 years ago at the Grammy Awards when they sang together with Stevie Wonder but they didn’t stay in contact. Armstrong was a fan of the original Everly Brothers album and says when he first thought of recording his version of it he wanted to record it with a woman, not another guy. His wife suggested Norah. Norah agreed and the entire album was recorded in just five days.
‘Songs Our Daddy Taught Us’ will be released in November through Warner Music.
