Billy Corgan posted a new update on Facebook Friday confirming a host of new projects.
Starting with a plug for Impact Wrestling, which he now co-owns, he went on to say that he has a new solo album, which he recorded over a two week period, pretty much completed although there is no release date set.
Billy then went on to talk about starting a new band with guitarist Jeff Schroeder, who joined Smashing Pumpkins in 2007, frequent Pumpkins touring band members Katie Cole and Sierra Swan, along with Jack Bates and Linda Strawberry.
Finally, the big news for Pumpkins fans, Corgan said “There’s some big stuff happening. We’re making plans. I can’t give that away, but it’s going to be interesting.
Now, Billy could just be talking about something new with Schroeder and drummer Jimmy Chamberlain but a number of media outlets are pointing to the hope that this could be a full fledged original Smashing Pumpkins reunion. Consequences of Sound is even reporting that they have a source saying that Corgan is shopping for dates next summer for a reunion tour.
From 1991 to 2000, the band, including Corgan, James Iha, D’arcy Wretzky and Chamberlin, released five influential albums including the number 1 Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness; however, a lot of really bad blood had the original members pealing off from the band, especially Iha and Wretzky. Over the last year, things have been somewhat patched up between the members which has led to the speculation.
