The rumours have finally been confirmed. Pioneers of Heavy Metal, Black Sabbath, have announced their first Australian shows in nearly 40 years.
Original band members Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi will arrive in Australia in April next year for arena shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
Live Nation had been teasing about a major announcement at 11pm this evening, using the Twitter hashtag #darknessdescends, but after the news leaked early thanks to what looks like a couple of technical hitches, they revealed all just over an hour earlier than planned.
These will be Black Sabbath’s first Aussie shows since 1974.
Hailing from Birmingham, England, Black Sabbath released their self-titled debut album on February 13, 1970. Their follow up album, the seminal masterpiece, UK #1 album Paranoid, featured the all-time rock anthems War Pigs and Iron Man as well as the title track, Paranoid.
Black Sabbath has sold in excess of 70 million records worldwide.
Tickets go on sale to the public at 12pm Thursday 8th November, but there will be a pre-sale for Live Nation members starting at 9am Friday 2nd November. You can sign up as a member at Live Nation’s website.
