Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Eric Clapton All Set For US Top 10 Debuts

If all numbers hold, three veteran artists could be making top ten debuts on the Billboard 200 chart.

Bob Dylan’s Fallen Angels covers album is projected by Hits Daily Double to have sold just north of 44,000 units in its first week, putting it at number 5 on their Sales chart behind Blake Shelton, Ariana Grande, Beyonce and Drake.

Now, think about that list. Four of the biggest names in music and, right up there with them, the 37th studio album by a one-time folky who’s now singing the songs of Frank Sinatra. It is, truly, quite an amazing accomplishment.

Now, throw in and extra 600 units from streaming and Dylan drops to number 6, passed by another big name, Rihanna. Still, quite an amazing number.

If number 6 holds, the new set will have beaten Bob’s first standards album, Shadows of the Night (2015) by one spot and give him seven straight non-holiday studio albums to debut in the U.S. top ten.

Also projecting well is Eric Clapton’s I Still Do, projected at number 6 on the sales chart with and estimated 42,200 units sold, and 7 on the Sales + Streaming with an additional 1,700 units added. That start would equal his last album, 2013’s Old Sock.

Tom Petty’s original band, Mudcrutch, fills out the list of potential veteran artists in the top ten for the week with projected first week sales of 31,400 and Sales + Streaming of 31,900, good for 7 on sales and 10 with streaming added in. That’s down slightly from the first Mudcrutch album that sold about 38,000 in its first week and debuted at number 8.

For the first time since his death, it looks like Prince will not have an album in the top ten as The Very Best of Prince is projected at 10 in pure sales with 19,495 but dropping to 14 when streaming is included.

The final charts will be published by Billboard on Tuesday.
