Cult comedian Bob Oderkirk has appeared in a spoof used car commercial for the next Black Keys album.
A couple of weeks back drummer Pat Carney was denying there was going to be a sequel to their hip-hop collaboration Blakroc, but he was eager to say that there would be a new Black Keys album coming soon.
And here it is. It’ll be called El Camino and it’s due out on December 6.
The way they’re announcing the news has been fun. They first placed a classified advert in their hometown newspaper Akron Beacon Journal in Ohio, which looked like they were selling a used car.
But beneath the copy and specs for a 1994 El Camino, hints like ‘Black vinyl seats”, “Grab the Keys and go!” and “Contact Pat or Dan” lead fans to call the number, where a recorded message has Carney describing the car and asking callers to leave a message.
Then a spoof commercial appeared featuring ‘Ross Lipnik from Lipnik’s Used Cars’, better known as comic actor Bob Odenkirk, who appeared with David Cross in Mr. Show, Tim And Eric Awesome Show Great Job! and most recently in Breaking Bad.
