Soul legend Bobby Womack releases a statement about his forthcoming cancer surgery.
Womack has been released from the hospital where he was being treated for pneumonia; however, he will have to undergo surgery for colon cancer “later this month.”
Womack’s illness was revealed over the weekend by friend Bootsy Collins who wrote about both the pneumonia and cancer on his Facebook page. Because the information was made public, Womack’s people felt it was necessary to post an update on Bobby’s Facebook page:
Because of stories circulating regarding the health of soul icon Bobby Womack, we felt it necessary to set the record straight. We’re pleased to let everyone know that Bobby was released from hospital yesterday afternoon following a successful recovery from pneumonia. Bobby has cancer and is scheduled to undergo surgery later this month.
Bobby stated, “My family, friends and I are looking forward to a successful surgery and speedy recovery. I want to thank all of my fans for their prayers, love and well wishes. I look forward to seeing all of you on the road in support of my new release.”
