Boy George won’t be joining will.i.am on the new season of The Voice U.K.
The Culture Club singer has revealed he won’t be returning as a coach on the revamped show, which this year will debut on ITV as part of a three-series deal that continues until 2017.
On Monday coach will.i.am confirmed he would rejoin the show when it returns to screens later this year. But Boy George casually revealed to a follower on Twitter that he would be bowing out.
After a fan asked if he would also be returning to the show, Boy George responded on Twitter: “Not doing this season of The Voice on ITV but sending @iamwill my love. Watch this space for what I am up to! :)”
Boy George joined Ricky Wilson, Paloma Faith, and will.i.am for season five of the show in January, the last to be screened on the BBC. The talent show which started in 2012, has suffered with low ratings and little success for the show’s past winners.
The judging line-up has also been hit with several changes over the years, with Kylie Minogue, Sir Tom Jones, Jessie J, The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue and Rita Ora all taking turns in seats on the panel.
Among the rumoured contenders for the new panel are Kylie, Sir Paul McCartney, Rachel Stevens, Katy B, Jennifer Hudson and Robbie Williams.
Meanwhile will.i.am, who has also signed on to take part in spin-off show The Voice Kids, shared his excitement at returning to the show.
“I’m delighted to be continuing The Voice UK on ITV and being a voice of direction and guidance for the usual suspects,” he said. “And I’m thrilled to add The Voice Kids to the mix.”
