Boz Scaggs To Play Japan In November

American singer, songwriter and guitarist Boz Scaggs will perform shows in Japan in November.

Scaggs, who turns 70 next year, has five Japanese shows booked for Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Hiroshima.

His year Scaggs released his ‘Memphis’ album, his first album in five years. Scaggs recorded the 13 tracks on the album during a three-day session at Royal Studios in Memphis.

The project just fell out naturally,” Scaggs says. “It didn’t require working over takes or a lot of revising. Choosing the material came, to some degree, out of the work I’d been doing with the Dukes of September (a band featuring Donald Fagen, Michael McDonald and Boz). We’d considered hundreds of songs over the last three years so a number of these had been spinning around in my head for a while. Then when I sounded Steve Jordan about producing the record, his reaction gelled so completely and instantly with mine. Was it the first or second conversation we had where I thought he was reading my mind: Royal Studios in Memphis? Ace players like Willie Weeks and Ray Parker Jr. and Charles Hodges? YES.”

Scaggs formed his first band at the age of 12 with a classmate from St Marks School in Dallas, a fellow student named Steve Miller. He became the first singer in Steve Miller’s first band The Marksmen. He also played on the Steve Miller Band’s first two albums.

In 1976, Scaggs gathered some of the best studio musicians together and recorded what would become his biggest album ‘Silk Degrees’. The album delivered five hit singles ‘Lido Shuffle’, ‘What Can I Say’, ‘Lowdown’, ‘It’s Over’ and “We’re All Alone’.

After ‘Silk Degrees’ the studio musicians stayed together and became Toto.

Scaggs son Austin is now a music journalist for Rolling Stone.

Scaggs Japanese tour dates are:

November 18 and 19, Tokyo, Shibuya Kokaido
November 20, Osaka, Osaka Archaic Hall
November 22, Nagoya, Nagoya Shi Kokaido
November 24, Hiroshima, Hiroshima Ueno Gakuen Hall
