Brandon Flowers says he is the most “rock and roll” person in the world.
The Killers frontman was raised a Mormon and gave up alcohol and cigarettes five years ago. Although he knows many can’t understand how he lives such a clean lifestyle while in a rock group, he insists it isn’t hard.
“I want to be myself. I live my life how I want to. Isn’t that the idea of what rock and roll is?” he asked Q magazine. “I am more rock and roll than just about anybody else that you’re going to meet.”
Brandon is now married with three sons but was hedonistic when he was growing up. He used to enjoy drinking with his friends and can vividly remember a time when he overdid things.
“Maybe when I was 18 or 19. We used to go to nightclubs and things. I think everybody’s been to that point where they think they might die,” he explained. “I can remember the next day, if I could have spoken I would have said, ‘Take me to the hospital.’ I’d been drinking gin. I hate gin.”
The 31-year-old star is proud of his upbringing and childhood, although there is one incident he would rather forget. The singer has perfectly straight front teeth as he had to have veneers fitted following problems as a teenager.
“They’re fake. I had braces and I didn’t take good care of [my teeth],” he admitted. “When it was time to get the braces off they took pieces of the teeth with them. I was 14. I went to school and people kept trying to tell me that I had food in my teeth but they were holes. Eventually I had to get veneers.”
