Brandon Flowers Needs To Convert Listeners To Fans At Gigs

Brandon Flowers still feels the need to “convert” people into fans at gigs.

The 34-year-old musician is the frontman of The Killers and has also forged a successful solo career over the years.

His music has garnered a mass following since he entered the spotlight in 2001, but that’s not to say he feels 100 per cent confident in his talents yet.

“I’m now in a position where I can reach out to artists whose work I adore. But even at a sold-out show, I’ll still be thinking there might be some people I need to convert,” he told Q magazine.

Brandon is currently on tour to support his album The Desired Effect, which boasts singles Can’t Deny My Love and I Can Change. Being a Mormon means the star shuns drinking after his gigs and is instead focused on getting a good night’s sleep.

That doesn’t mean he isn’t fully committed to putting on a memorable performance though.

“For me, it’s all about the show. I appreciate that with some bands you don’t know what you’re going to get and that’s the excitement of it,” he explained. “But it shouldn’t be frowned upon to do something consistently. We aim to please.”

Brandon’s solo sound is completely different from The Killers and his track I Can Change samples Bronski Beat’s 1984 hit Smalltown Boy. In May he spoke about his transition into a new genre of music, and insisted it was unplanned.

“Sometimes you want to be more macho and you want the word ‘rock’ next to your name. But I’m not ashamed of it or anything. I love pop music. And I definitely have a knack for it,” he told the BBC.
