Brandy Norwood admits she was “tapped out for a very long time”.
The 36-year-old actress-and-singer shot to fame in the Nineties after starring on hit TV show Moesha from 1996 to 2001. Her 1994 album Brandy and 1998 LP Never Say Never were also extremely successful, as both records went platinum but Brandy stepped out of the spotlight for a few years and the pop star reveals she needed the time to authentically connect with herself.
“I have a better relationship with myself these days, but it’s a practice every day,” she told the New York Daily News. “I meditate – breathe in, breathe out, shut up. I’m up to about an hour now. [I started] believing what negative people are saying about you.
“You start to embody everything you’re not. I was tapped out for a very long time.”
Fortunately, Brandy is returning to show business by starring as Roxie Hart in the new production of Chicago from Tuesday April 28 through June 21, her Broadway debut.
After the musical is over Brandy plans to hit the studio to record new music and in 2016 she’ll return to the small screen as a cosmetics guru in BET network sitcom Zoe Moon and the stunning star couldn’t be more excited about getting back into her professional groove.
“[It was] divine timing. Fear went all the way to the bottom of my stomach. I was scared as hell, but I said I’m not missing out on an opportunity that can change my life,” she said of being invited to star in Chicago. “I have reset my life. There was a time when I’d stopped dreaming. I’m dreaming again.”
