Australian music legend Brian Cadd has performed The Band’s classic ‘The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down’ for RockWiz.
Brian Cadd appeared on RockWiz as part of the ‘RockWiz Salutes The Legends of Canada’ show, originally aired on June 11. Paul Demspey was also a guest on the show.
‘The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down’ was written by Robbie Robertson and recorded by The Band for their 1969 self-titled second album. Joan Baez covered the song in 1971 and made it a Top 5 hit.
‘The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down’ was about the last days of the American civil war and the suffering of white southerners.
The song has been covered many times since the Baez version by Johnny Cash, Glen Hansard, the Black Crowes, Allman Brothers, Charlie Daniels and Zac Brown.
