Britney Spears may remain under a lifetime conservatorship.
The 33-year-old singer’s father Jamie Spears became her conservator in 2008 after her public breakdown the year before, which saw her display worrying behaviour such as entering rehab and shaving her head. Her family were quick to step in to look after her.
Britney is under two conservatorships, one for the person and another for finances, and TMZ reports they are both working so well, there are no plans to end them. The outlet claims there is a team of doctors and lawyers helping Jamie manage the documents, but Britney is able to make her own decisions and has “substantial day-to-day freedom”.
The arrangement has paid off financially too, as she is thought to have gained $14 million from her conservatorship last year alone – a great step up from before it was in place.
It’s feared that if the conservatorship were to end, the star’s progress would backslide.
The blonde beauty has been spotted looking relaxed and happy recently while vacationing with her sons Sean Preston, nine, and Jayden James, eight, who she has with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
While financially things are going well, it’s been a tough year for Britney when it comes to her love life. Following her break-up from former fiancé Jason Trawick in 2013 she dated David Lucado, but split from him last August amid rumours he had been unfaithful.
Things looked up when she moved on with TV producer Charlie Ebersol and the couple constantly gushed about one another on social media. But they went their separate ways in June, with claims that they disagreed over marriage. Britney was apparently keen to settle down, whereas Charlie reportedly wasn’t ready for the commitment.
