Will Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band perform at the AFL Grand Final in Melbourne on September 29? The hot rumour is yes.
A caller into 3AW’s rumour file was very confident that Bruce Springsteen & The Street Band will tour Australia in September and October and as part of the tour perform at the AFL Grand Final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The AFL are still rolling in embarrassment after the disastrous Meat Loaf performance of 2011. In decades of footy Grand Final’s, it has gone done as the worst performance ever.
Springsteen would make up for it big-time. The only thing is that the tour has not been confirmed or announced.
Are Bruce’s dates free? Yes. At this stage, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band dates go through until July 31 in Helsinki so they are wide open to do it at this stage over the Grand Final period.
Springsteen will kick off a year of activity for the E Street Band officially on March 18 in Atlanta but the week before will be in Austin, Texas as keynote speaker for SXSW.
UPDATE: Michael Gudinski for Frontier Touring has told Cameron Adams at the Herald Sun that the rumours of Bruce at the Grand Final are false. Gudinski books the entertainment for the AFL Grand Final.
