Bruce Springsteen to Release Solo ‘Western Stars’ Album in June

by Paul Cashmere on April 26, 2019

in News

Bruce Springsteen next album is called ‘Western Stars’. Springsteen announced the new solo album this week, being his first studio project since 2012’s ‘Wrecking Ball’.

In between ‘Wrecking Ball’ and ‘Western Stars’ Springsteen fans were treated to the ‘High Hopes’, gathering unreleased material from early years, ‘Chapter and Verse’, an accompanying soundtrack to Bruce’s autobiography and ‘Springsteen on Broadway’, a live album culled from his Broadway appearance.

Springsteen created ‘Western Stars’ based around the influence of Southern California pop music of the 1970s.

“This record is a return to my solo recordings featuring character driven songs and sweeping, cinematic orchestral arrangements,” says Springsteen. “It’s a jewel box of a record.”

The album was produced by Ron Aniello, who previously worked with Springsteen on ‘High Hopes’. Aniello has also worked with Australia’s Vanessa Amorosi (Somewhere In The Real World, 2008).

‘Western Stars’ features Springsteen and plays bass, keyboard, and other instruments. Patti Scialfa provides vocals and contributes vocal arrangements on four tracks. The musical arrangements include strings, horns, pedal steel and contributions from more than 20 other players including Jon Brion (who plays celeste, Moog, and farfisa), as well as guest appearances by David Sancious, Charlie Giordano, and Soozie Tyrell. The album was mixed by Grammy winner Tom Elmhirst.
