The annual Aussie BBQ will kick off in Los Angeles on March 11 with Busby Marou, Bliss N Eso, Big Scary and Emma Louise the first acts announced for the show.
The Aussie BBQ will return to The Echo in LA suburb of Silverlake for the 4th year in a row.
After that, the event will showcase at SXSW in Austin before heading to Canadian Music Week in Toronto and finally ending in New York on March 25.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Aussie BBQ after being developed by Glenn Dickie and Mary Mihelakos to help the transition of Australian acts into international territories.
We never expected to be doing it 10 years later that’s for sure,” says Glenn Dickie co-founder of Stage Mothers and The Aussie BBQ. “Mary and I saw that Australian bands just weren’t getting noticed and didn’t know how to navigate South by so we thought we’d help raise the profile of the Australian Music Scene over there by putting on a BBQ, some beers and of course the bands.”
Over the years, acts who have played the Aussie BBQ in America include The Living End, Hoodoo Gurus, Paul Kelly, The Temper Trap, Ben Lee and Gabriella Cilmi.
In 2009, the event grew even bigger when The Aussie BBQ teamed with Sounds Australia. “Teaming up with Sounds Australia has not only allowed the BBQ to continue, but to expand, including our move to Maggie Mae’s,” Glenn said.
Dates for the Aussie BBQ are:
March 11, Los Angeles, The Echo (with Emma Louise, Busby Marou, Big Scary, Bliss N Eso and more to be announced)
March 17, Austin, Maggie Maes @SXSW (SXSW delegates event)
March 24, Toronto, El Mocambo @Canadian Music Week (Canadian Music Week delegates event)
