Record company executive Tim Carr has been murdered in Thailand.
Carr, an A&R executive that worked at Capitol, Warner Brothers and Dreamworks and was instrumental in the initial signings of groups like the Beastie Boys and Megadeth, was found dead in his Thailand apartment, the apparent victim of a stabbing.
According to his hometown newspaper, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Carr’s body was found with a deep stab wound to the chest among evidence of drug use. He had been living in Thailand for eight years and had recently been working on a movie about a rock band.
After starting as a music critic at the Minneapolis Tribune, Carr did A&R for Capitol Records where he was instrumental in the signing of the Beastie Boys and the recording of their debut album Paul’s Boutique. He also signed Megadeth to their first major label contract.
Carr later moved on to Warner Brothers, where he worked with David Byrne, and Dreamworks.
