Céline Dion has reportedly told Caesar’s Palace she won’t be back until the end of the year.
The Canadian hit maker has held a residency spot at the Las Vegas tourist destination on and off since 2003, with her latest show, Céline, starting in March 2011.
While it was only meant to be a three-year run, Céline extended her residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace until 2017. But last August she was forced to cancel future shows so she could concentrate on looking after husband René Angélil, who is suffering from throat cancer.
While it’s thought she will return, sources say it won’t be until later this year, with no specific date yet given reports TMZ.
As well as pulling the plug on Vegas dates, Céline, 46, had to cancel her Asian tour last year so she could care for René.
“I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband’s healing, and to do so, it’s important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children,” she explained to People at the time. “I also want to apologise to all my fans everywhere for inconveniencing them, and I thank them so much for their love and support.”
This is 72-year-old René’s second battle with cancer after previously being treated in 1999, with TMZ reporting he is on the road to getting better.
Caesar’s Palace has called on a whole host of singing stars to fill in for Céline while she’s on hiatus, with the likes of Sir Elton John and Rod Stewart covering future dates.
