If numbers hold, the Chemical Brothers will be at number 1 this week on the U.K. Albums chart.
The band is looking for their sixth straight chart topper if Born in the Echoes continues to sell at the level that it has the first half of the week. The final British charts will be announced on Friday.
There is an asterisk to go with that streak. Every one of the Chemical Brothers’ albums have gone to number 1 except for their debut, Exit Planet Dust which peaked at 9. The asterisk comes with their 2010 release, Further, which was not allowed on the British charts due to the fact that buying the album gave people the chance to win an iPad. The Official Charts Company does not allow there to be merchandise or contests used to entice buyers.
Roger Waters is also selling well with the reissue of Amused to Death. The album originally made it to number 8 upon its original release in 1992 and, once again, if numbers hold it will land in the same position on this week’s British charts.
Joe Satriani may have his best showing as Shockwave Supernova is at number 12 mid-week his previous best was 1992’s The Extremist which went to 13. His last album, Unstoppable Momentum, went to 44.
The only other new album by a veteran artist at the week’s mid-point is Ashes & Dust by Warren Haynes and Railroad Earth (#56).
