Russell Morris ‘Van Dieman’s Land’ and Chet Faker ‘Built On Glass’ are the week’s two fastest selling albums so far while Sheppard are certain to hold onto the top of the singles chart with ‘Geronimo’.
At the moment, it looks like last weeks leap to No.1 for Sheppard and their song “Geronimo” is going to stay put at the top of the Australian Singles chart this week.
At the moment we might even have an all-Aussie top three, as Sia could jump up to No.2 and there could be a No.3 debut for local metal core band The Amity Affliction with “Pittsburgh”, but most likely it could land within the Top 10 and it’s the first taste of their early June due album “Let the Ocean Take Me”.
There are a further two Aussie acts within the Top 10 at the moment, with Peking Duk and “High” alongside Jessica Mauboy with “Never Be the Same” (TW-17) which could leap up into the ten for the first time, whilst also retaining Top 10 status could be Pharrell Williams, Calvin Harris, Clean Bandit and Zendaya with “Replay” (TW-11) which looks set to climb up into the ten.
Justin Timberlake continues to climb with “Not a Bad Thing” (TW-25), potentially jumping into the Top 15, whilst this weeks highest new entry of “I Will Never Let You Down” (TW-19) for Rita Ora looks set for the same chart region as JT. Climbing into the Top 20 could be Route 94 with “My Love” (TW-22), and missing out on an entry this week, but holding their placing from last week, is Tegan and Sara with The Lonely Island on ‘The Lego Movie’ theme “Everything is AWESOME” which would enter the Top 20 if allowed to chart this week.
Lana Del Rey launched a new single at the start of the week entitled “West Coast”, whilst new entries for Samantha Jade and her World Soccer Cup Anthem themed tune “Up!”, the new song for Passenger “Hearts on Fire”, and the first chart entry for Joelle with “Save Me” could all potentially enter within the Top 30 this week, whilst a little lower down the newly conceived I Touch Myself Project could enter with their stripped-back breast cancer awareness campaign theme “I Touch Myself”.
The new Ellie Goulding song from the ‘Divergent’ film “Beating Heart” (TW-52) could jump into the Top 40 this week, with the new Katy Perry track “Birthday” possibly scoring a Top 50 entry (last week it would’ve debuted within the Top 80). Local act Short Stack announced their reformation this week, and their first new track “Television” could enter within the Top 50 this week, whilst another of last weeks missed entries, Pharrell Williams with “Marilyn Monroe” could see a fifty debut this week too.
Lower Down: The new Timmy Trumpet track “Freaks” could debut just outside of the top fifty this week, and Sam Smith with “Money on My Mind” (TW-59) could go higher, with Asgier looking set to jump into the Top 70 with “King and Cross” (TW-77). Passenger has another track selling at the moment, “Whispers”, which would have entered within the Top 20 three weeks ago if allowed to chart (Top 50 last week); this week though it’s within the Top 70, as too is the new Lily Allen track “Our Time”.
Further entries could come from Sigur Ros with “The Rains of Castamere” taken from the ‘Game of Thrones Season 4’ TV series, and the new OneRepublic track “Love Runs Out” (both Top 80) could also enter within the same region. Further down from the new Chet Faker album is the track “1998”, Showtek and their song “We Like to Party” {nothing to do with Vengaboys}, Pitbull’s Official World Cup Anthem “We Are One (Ole Ola)” (all Top 90) and just outside at the moment are First Aid Kit with “My Silver Lining”.
Albums
At the moment, Chet Faker looks set for a No.1 debut on the Australian Albums chart this coming week with his new album “Built on Glass”, as his current charting set “Talking in Textures” (TW-38) hit a new peak this past week {and could do so again this week}. The other big local act selling well is Russell Morris with “Van Diemen’s Land”, the blues-infused follow-up to his biggest album to date “Sharkmouth”.
At the moment, the ‘Frozen’ soundtrack, Pharrell with “G I R L”, Katy Perry’s “Prism” and possibly Dan Sultan and Ball Park Music could retain their Top 10 status this week, but we could also see a new entry within the ten from Swedish House Mafia and the music from their documentary “One Last Tour: A Live Soundtrack”, with the potential for Jessica Mauboy to jump up into the Top 20 with her current set “Beautiful” (TW-42).
Harrison Craig could see his second set “L.O.V.E.” debut within the Top 20, a couple of weeks ahead of The Voice returning to our screens and just in time for Mothers Day (here) in three weeks time. There’s the potential for a Top 30 entry from the American Authors with “Oh, What a Life”, whilst the self-titled EP from The Acid could score a Top 40 debut. A top 50 entry could come via Dizzy Wright with “https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ka3_CmpvmU8”, and the recent news (true or false) about AC/DC has triggered a sales surge for their 1992 set “Live”, and their classic 1980 set “Back in Black”.
Lower Down: Emmure could land within the Top 60 with “Eternal Enemies”, as too the new Michael Franti & Spearhead album “All People”, and August Alsina with the album “Testimony”. The 2014 MTV Movie Awards were held in LA this past week, and one of the musical acts, twenty-one pilots, performed on the night, which has re-ignited their January 2013 set “Vessel” to start selling here.
