The last ever performance by Mark ‘Chopper’ Read has been released on DVD.
On October 9, 2013, Read, one of Australia’s most notorious criminals, told his story of his life of crime on stage at Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre.
The very next day, Read, the Ned Kelly of our generation, was put into palliative care in a Melbourne hospital for advanced liver cancer. He passed away one week later.
Read’s last performance ‘An Evening With Mark ‘Chopper’ Read’ was captured by director Mark Bakaitis and producer David Williams and is now available on DVD.
Read told his brutally honest account of his life of crime just days before dying. It is the story of a troubled kid who would spend most of his adult life in prison, the violent prison system and the surreal life of celebrity that followed.
During the performance Mark also sang his version of his favourite song ‘Plastic Jesus’, originally sung by Paul Newman in the movie ‘Cool Hand Luke’.
‘An Evening With Mark ‘Chopper’ Read – The Man, The Legend’ was presented by Williams’ Tombowler Touring and out now.
