A petition has begun to have a laneway in the City of Melbourne named of Divinyls singer Chrissy Amphlett, who passed away two weeks ago from breast cancer.
The petition at Change.org is supported by Chrissy’s husband Charley Drayton.
At Change.org we are told, “Chrissy Amphlett loved Melbourne and it would be wonderful for her family, friends and admirers all over the world to have a special space dedicated to her in this famously musical city. This campaign is supported by her husband, Charley Drayton. Please sign and spread the word. Thank you”.
Chrissy was born in the Geelong, just outside Melbourne and it is not known why her hometown was not chosen as a better location for the laneway.
In fact, despite being from Victoria, Chrissy’s band Divinyls was formed in Sydney in 1980. She died on April 22, 2013 at the age of 53.
Melbourne has an AC/DC Lane in the city and Paul Hester Walk in the suburb of Elwood.
At the time of publication, 1215 people had signed the petition. If you would like to see a Chrissy Amphlett Lane in Melbourne, add your name here.
