Music was the gift to give in Australia this year with Christmas boosting music sales by over 250%.
Australian’s were big on presenting music as Christmas gifts with the most popular album for the season being Ed Sheeran’s ‘x’ with 44,528 sales in the days leading into Christmas.
Taylor Swift ‘1989’ was the second most popular purchase with 39,361 people buying the title last week.
Michael Buble’s ‘Christmas’ was the most popular Christmas album sold again this year for the fourth year running. Buble’s ‘Christmas’ earned another platinum award in the four weeks leading into Christmas for sales over 70,000. In the past four years in Australia it has now clocked up almost 800,000 sales and is certified 11 times platinum.
Dads likely discovered AC/DC ‘Rock or Bust’ under the tree on Christmas morning. The new AC/DC album sold 16,367 copies last week. Mothers most likely added another Human Nature album to their collection with 14,405 sales of ‘Jukebox’ registered also last week. Kids would have found the ‘So Fresh: The Hits of Summer 2015 + The Best of 2014’ with 26,043 copies sold before Christmas.
Other big sales were Sam Smith ‘In The Midnight Hour’ (14,394), the ‘Frozen’ soundtrack (13,447) and One Direction ‘Four’ (10,229).
The top selling DVD was One Direction ‘Where We Are: Live From San Siro Stadium’ with 3,876 sales.
