Cilla, the three part biopic about the life of 60s UK pop star Cilla Black, is screening on ITV in the UK.
Cilla stars Sheridan Smith as Cilla Black, Ed Stoppard as manager Brian Epstein, Elliott Cowan as George Martin and Tom Dunlea as The Beatles’ Ringo, Michael Hawkins as George, Jack Fathing as John and Kevin Mains as Paul.
Production for the three-part series began in March 2014 in Liverpool, England.
Cilla Black had a parallel career to The Beatles. Like The Beatles, the Liverpool singer was managed by Brian Epstein and produced by George Martin. Her songs ‘Anyone Who Had A Heart’ and ‘You’re My World’ both topped charts in the UK and Australia and gave Cilla Black a top 40 chart hit in the USA.
Her song ‘Step Inside Love’ was written by Paul McCartney.
ITV honored Cilla Black’s 50 years in show business with ‘The One and Only Cilla Black’ special in October 2013.
Cilla was written by Jeff Pope and directed by Paul Whittington.
