Clare Bowditch will team up with Christine Salem of Reunion Island and Kutcha Edwards will perform with Boubacar Trare of Mali for the Australasian World Music Expo next week in Melbourne.
Melbourne’s own Clare Bowditch is six albums deep into her career and recently released the stunning ‘The Winter I Chose Happiness’.
Christine Salem is one of the few female voices of Maloya. Accompanied by a kayanm, Salem sings in Creole, Malagasy, Comorian and Swahili – blending music from the Indian Ocean with African rhythms.
Kutcha’s recent album is the critically acclaimed ‘Blak and Blu’, fusing his soulful music and rich, powerful voice with his personal story, Kutcha Edward’s music reflects on life as, an Aboriginal man in white Australia.
He will team with Boubacar Traore, a veteran of Mandingo music. As a 20-year old in the 1960s, Baubarcar was considered Mali’s Chuck Berry.
The Australasian World Music Expo will be held at the Arts Centre in Melbourne from November 15-18, 2012.
Clare Bowditch and Christine Salem will perform at the Arts Centre on Friday November 16 from 7pm-10pm. ($35 plus transaction fee)
Boubacar Traore and Kutcha Edwards will perform at the Arts Centre, Melbourne on Saturday, November 17 from 7pm-9:40pm. ($35 + transaction fee).
