Pop icon Cliff Richard has announced a new album of soul duets with The Temptations, Robert Flack and more.
The squeaky clean British pop idol will deliver an album of new soul tunes and some bona fide classics called Soulicious.
He’ll be joined by a litany of soul stars for the 15-track album, including Billy Paul, Brenda Holloway, Candi Staton, Dennis Edwards and The Temptations Review, Freda Payne, Percy Sledge, Roberta Flack and Valerie Simpson.
The songs were produced by Motown legends Lamont Dozier, Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson and recorded in Memphis and New York in April this year
Richard says in a press release: “If you get all these icons to join me on an album I will have died and gone to heaven. That’s what I said to David Gest when he first suggested this soul project. Here I am, not dead, but definitely in heaven!”
He says to his collaborators: “To all of you ‘legends’, I can only say thank you for finding the time to be with me on yet another dream adventure. It was great singing (and laughing a lot) with all of you!”
What a sweetheart. Soulicious will be released on October 7.
