Cold Chisel will perform at the Sydney Entertainment Centre before the iconic venue is demolished.

The Sydney Entertainment Centre opened in 1983 and at the time become Sydney’s largest indoor venue with a capacity of 13,000. The venue has housed an average of one million concertgoers ever year.

1986 was an especially incredible year for the venue. Concert highlights of the Sydney Entertainment Centre that year include Elton John’s eight dates with an orchestra, Dire Straits 21 consecutive shows on the 1985-1986 world tour and Genesis performing nine shows.

David Bowie recorded the Glass Spider video at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, Kylie Minogue has played a total of 25 shows at the venue and two Beatles, Paul McCartney and George Harrison, have appeared there on stage. (Harrison made a surprise appearance with Deep Purple at the Sydney Entertainment Centre in 1984).

Cold Chisel performed The Last Stand’ shows at the Sydney Entertainment Centre before breaking up in 1983. The performances were document for The Last Stand film and live album. “Having finished our Last Stand tour there in the year the venue opened, it’s great to now be playing at their Last Stand. We’re gonna tear the place to the ground,” said Jimmy Barnes.

“When we were asked to play this show, we didn’t hesitate,” said Ian Moss. “We love playing there, the Sydney crowds are always up for it, and it will give us and the audience a chance to tap into the venue’s history and our own history.”

The Sydney Entertainment Centre is to be demolished to make way for a new convention centre with work due to commence in 2016.

Cold Chisel will farewell the Sydney Entertainment Centre on December 18, 2015. Ticket prices will be $99.90 for all General Admission tickets and $129.90 for limited elevated seating and the premium bays.
