Coldplay may have a number one single this week. 5 Seconds Of Summer sales are also strong.
At the moment several factors could shape the No.1 singles position this coming weekend. One is the pre-release of 5 Seconds of Summer’s self-titled album which is out as of Friday (27th June), and two tracks from it are selling within the top three at the moment, “Everything I Didn’t Say” and “Amnesia”, but they haven’t been that high all week.
On the other hand we could see Coldplay score their first ever No.1 single here, as “A Sky Full of Stars” (HP-11, TW-24) is selling high on some digital retailers, as they not only performed on The Voice Monday night, but shot and released the video clip in Sydney last week, and have been performing all around the country on TV shows. But we shouldn’t discount the current No.1 “Que Sera” by Justice Crew notching up an eight week too.
“We Are Done” for The Madden Brothers jumped up to No.16 this week, whilst it could be a Top 5 placing this coming weekend, with Tove Lo, Nico & Vinz and Mr. Probz most likely retaining their Top 10 status, Sia with “Chandelier” (TW-10) could get another boost back up within the ten, thanks to The Voice. Whilst the next Ed Sheeran release “Don’t” could see a second Top 10 entry from his new album “x” this weekend.
Coldplay also sang “Magic” (HP-5, TW-30) on The Voice, which could jump back up into the Top 15, and talking of ‘The Voice: Live Showdowns’, there are a heap of performances from the show which could debut on the charts this weekend. Leading at the moment is Sabrina Batshon with “Chandelier” (Sia), followed by Jackson Thomas with “This is What it Feels Like” (Armin van Burren), both within the Top 30, followed within the forty by Holly Tapp with “Bang Bang” (Nancy Sinatra version), and Robbie Balmer with “By My Side” (INXS), whilst Top 50 currently are Kat Jade with “Brave” (Sara Barielles), ZK with their version of “With or Without You” (U2), whilst further entries could come from Taila Gouge with “Who Knew” (Pink), Elly Oh and “If I Ain’t Got You” (traditional), Anja Nissen with “I’ll Be There” (Mariah Carey version), John Lingard with “Babylon” (David Gray), C Major with “Sing” (Ed Sheeran) and Gabriel & Cecilia with the stripped back rendition of “Walking on a Dream” (Empire of the Sun). Also these performances seem to be helping the current originals to climb, including Sia, Armin van Buuren, Ed Sheeran, Pharrell Williams, American Authors and Sara Barielles.
“Boom Clap” (New TW-41) for Charli XCX should jump into the Top 30, whilst current UK No.1 single for Ella Henderson, “Ghost” could make a Top 40 debut this coming weekend, as too the T.I. and Iggy Azalea teaming on “No Mediocre”. Maroon 5 should jump up with “Maps” (New TW-50) within the 31 to 40 region, and another of last weeks entries, “Back Home” (New TW-55) for Andy Grammer should climb into the Top 50.
Jeremih debuted this week with “Don’t Tell ‘em” (New TW-95) which could leap up into the Top 60, whilst Taylor Henderson could enter within the same region with “Already Gone”. “Riptide” (TW-58) for Vance Joy won the APRA Song of the Year this past week, and could either maintain its position or climb back up. Rise Against could enter with their track “I Don’t Want to Be Here Anymore” (Top 80), whilst the new Alt-J track “Hunger of the Pine” is also poised to enter, with the new PSY song featuring Snoop Dogg entitled “Hangover” possibly sneaking into the lower end of the charts too.
Albums:
Ed Sheeran took 42 weeks to climb to No.1 with his first album “+”, whilst this week his follow up “x” (multiply) should go straight into the No.1 spot, with a close second being Coldplay’s “Ghost Stories” which benefits from their many TV performances and a show here in Australia.
Last weeks No.1 entry of “Ultraviolence” by Lana Del Rey should retain a high placing, whilst deadmau5 could climb into the Top 10 with his latest “while (1<2)” (New TW-12) after a full week of sales. 360 and Linkin Park should retain their Top 10 status, whilst Milky Chance could see their debut album “Sadnecessary” land within the Top 10, whilst also climbing up into the ten could be the soundtrack for ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ (TW-14). Kendrick Lamar and Ab-Soul were a part of the group Black Hippy, and Ab-Soul has just released his third solo album “These Days…” which could land a Top 30 entry this week, as too Mastodon with “Once More ‘Round the Sun” and the tenth studio album for David Gray entitled “Mutineers” could also enter within the same chart region.
Hillsong could enter with their new set “No Other Love”, whilst soundtracks for the recently opened films ‘22 Jump Street’ and ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2” could both enter, alongside Confession with “Love and Death” and Kim Cesarion with his album “Undressed”, which is very Prince sounding (IMO).
