Creepy electro duo Crystal Castles have posted the new single ‘Wrath of God’ from album number three.
The Canadian outfit have managed to carve a career out of making haunted electronic noise-scapes on two albums (both self-titled) and it looks like they’ll do it again on their third album, titled (III) (or, pretty much, self-titled).
They’ve reportedly dumped the synthesizers and keyboards from their last albums and only recorded to tape. The single still sounds completely digital, though.
Ethan Kath says in a press release, “We wanted the new album to sound like a completely different and new experience. We’d limit ourselves to one take on each song because we believe the first take is the rawest expression of an idea.”
Bandmate Alice Glass, “Oppression is a theme, in general… A lot of bad things have happened to people close to me since II and it’s profoundly influenced my writing as I’ve realised there will never be justice for them. I didn’t think I could lose faith in humanity any more than I already had, but after witnessing some things, it feels like the world is a dystopia where victims don’t get justice and corruption prevails.”
Yikes. In addition to that, the cover is a photo of Yemeni mother Fatima al-Qaws holding her tear-gassed son Zayed following a street demonstration.
Crystal Castles will be in Australia for the Big Day Out, but the album will be released before; on November 2.
