Culture Club World Tour Cancelled

Culture Club has cancelled all upcoming USA and UK dates until further notice after a polyp was found in Boy George’s throat.

Doctor’s advised the singer to not perform and rest his voice in case they needed to do surgery. The band issued a statement saying:

George and the band are devastated by this news and so it is with much regret that the tour is cancelled until further notice. Refunds are available at the point of purchase.

We are hoping we can reschedule the concerts for next year, and hopefully George’s problem will be resolved… To our fans we wish to thank you for your loyalty and know that we love you all.

Boy George issued his own statement:

I’m devastated but I want to be able to perform to the best of my ability and the specialist has told me that right now that will be impossible. I will focus on getting better and see all my fans soon.

A total of six shows in the U.S. and eleven in the U.K. have been cancelled as a result of the diagnosis. This was to be the band’s first tour together in twelve years. Hopefully, Boy George will be better and the band will be able to tour in time to promote their new album, Tribes, which is due early next year.

I still remember the CBS guy delivering Cyndi Lauper’s debut album ‘She’s So Unusual’ to EON-FM, the radio station I was working at in 1983. ‘She’s So Unusual’ was released on 14 October 1983, the same day as Lionel Richie’s ‘Can’t Slow Down’ and The Jam’s greatest hits album ‘Snap!’. It came out in the same week as Culture Club’s ‘Color By Numbers’. Those were the days when something important was happening every week with new music.
