Cyndi Lauper Gets Her Own Reality Show

Most people would agree that Cyndi Lauper is a true personality. Full of quirks and eccentricities, the talented performer has always lived life to the fullest and spread her time between her music, her family and her causes.

WE TV is developing a new reality series built around the life of Lauper in Cyndi. According to the networks website:

Cyndi (working title) takes viewers on an all-access journey into the personal and professional life of one of pop culture’s most beloved and influential icons as she juggles her roles as rock star, mother, wife, Broadway composer, and philanthropist. With her hectic touring schedule, awards appearances, and recording sessions, Cyndi’s family life with her husband of 20 years, actor David Thornton (My Sister’s Keeper, The Notebook), and the couple’s 13-year-old son, Declyn, is anything but “normal.” Cyndi will explore the life of an artist who passionately pursues her creative endeavors, work demands and family life without compromising on any of them. She may be constantly running to keep up, but Cyndi’s true colors show equally at a glamorous photo shoot and while cheering on Declyn at a hockey game.

The show is being produced by Mark Burnett’s company (Survivor, The Apprentice) with Burnett and Lauper executive producing. Lauper said of the pairing “I’m really looking forward to reuniting with Mark Burnett and working with his team and WE tv on my new show. They make a powerful combination so I am going into this venture with an A Team! I love TV and this is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.”

No start date has been announced for the show but it will air this summer.

I still remember the CBS guy delivering Cyndi Lauper’s debut album ‘She’s So Unusual’ to EON-FM, the radio station I was working at in 1983. ‘She’s So Unusual’ was released on 14 October 1983, the same day as Lionel Richie’s ‘Can’t Slow Down’ and The Jam’s greatest hits album ‘Snap!’. It came out in the same week as Culture Club’s ‘Color By Numbers’. Those were the days when something important was happening every week with new music.
