Cyndi Lauper Kicks Off Detour Tour

Cyndi Lauper played a cherished stage for country music fans at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville Monday night but she actually fit in with all of the country flavored covers from her new Detour album.

Lauper opened her Detour Tour with a sixteen song set that broke close to evenly between her previous hits and album cuts, and songs from the new album.

Detour is a country covers album and she brought out some of the best from from the rockabilly twinged Wanda Jackson song Funnel of Love to the very traditional country of Patsy Montana’s I Want to Be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart.

Interestingly, Lauper left out a few of her hits (All Through the Night, Change of Heart) while playing some lesser known music from her past including Dear John from 1993’s Hat Full of Stars and You Don’t Know from 1997’s Sisters of Avalon.
