Daft Punk have released the video for their new single ‘Instant Crush’ featuring The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas.
The video was produced by Daft Arts and shot on 35mm film on location and on sound stages in Los Angeles.
The video is directed by Warren Fu, who started his career as a concept designer for Lucas Films and created characters for the 2nd Star Wars Trilogy, including most notably General Grievous.
Since then he’s directed music video for The Strokes, The Killers, Mark Ronson, Depeche Mode and the video for ‘Derezzed’ from Daft Punk’s Tron soundtrack. Warren also album artwork and illustrations for Daft Punk’s R.A.M. For the ‘Instant Crush’ video, Warren took inspiration from Hans Christian Anderson’s story ‘The Steadfast Soldier’ as well as the 1960’s TV series the Twilight Zone.
Julian Casablancas’ face was sculpted by hand both in fiberglass and wax for the video by Alterian, led by Tony Gardner.
So far just the two videos have been released off the album, ‘Random Access Memories’. Inexplicably no video has been made for the biggest hit off the album, ‘Get Lucky’, which is one of the year’s most streamed songs on Spotify.
Random Access Memories is out now.
