Damien Lovelock, the Australian punk pioneer and founder of Celebate Rifles, has died after a battle with cancer at age 65.
Damien was born in 1954 in London. The family moved to Australia where his mother Joan Wilton had a radio show for the ABC and father Bill Lovelock was a producer, musician and composer. Bill produced music for Burl Ives and Nina Simone.
Damien was 26 when Celebate Rifles formed in Sydney. By 1986 they were in New York performing at the legendary CBGBs.
Celebrate Rifles released their last album Ten Thousand Days in 2007.
Damien released his solo album ‘It’s a Wig Wig Wig Wig World’ in 1980. It featured Peter Koppes of The Church and Reeves Gabrels from Bowie’s Tim Machine.
Damien was a contributor to the SBS show The Word Game. He also co-hosted Football fever in Sky Sports Radio. Damien was also a yoga instructor.
