Damon Albarn, Flea and Tony Allen have a name for their new collaborative album: Rocketjuice And The Moon.
Damon (Blur, Gorillaz), Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), and Tony (Fela Kuti’s band) have been working on a “mostly instrumental album”, according to an interview Albarn did with The Irish Times, and they’ve decided to give it a ridiculous name.
He said, “Someone in Lagos did the sleeve design and that’s the name he gave it, which suits me because trying to find a name for another band is always tricky.”
They will be playing some of the music they recorded at show in Cork this weekend with Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Theo Parrish, Sun Ra Arkestra trumpet player Phil Cohran and Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara.
It’s part of Albarn’s ongoing love affair with African music, which also includes his work with the DRC Music album, teaming Congolese musicians with Western electro producers.
There’s still no solid release plans for Rocketjuice And The Moon, but with a name like that, you won’t miss it when it does come.
