Damon Albarn has debuted his ‘Mr Tembo’ video.
A video for Mr Tembo, to accompany the track taken from Damon Albarn’s critically acclaimed solo album Everyday Robots, will be released on 23rd June as a digital download on Parlophone.
The video for ‘the joyous Mr Tembo’ (Evening Standard), features Damon and his band The Heavy Seas, as well as footage of the real Mr Tembo ‘ the gospel-loving, orphaned baby elephant in Tanzania who inspired the song. Included on the album at the suggestion of producer Richard Russell, Albarn originally wrote the track in Africa solely for the enjoyment of his family.
The video is filmed at the Pentecostal City Mission Church in Leytonstone and features the church choir, who also sing on the album track.
Everyday Robots was recorded last year at Albarn’s West London Studio 13 and is produced by Richard Russell of XL, with whom Albarn produced Bobby Womack’s ‘The Bravest Man In The Universe’.
Albarn recently played a number of sold out dates with live band The Heavy Seas consisting of guitarist Seye, drummer Pauli The PSM, guitarist Jeff Wootton and Mike Smith on keyboards, and will return to the UK to headline Latitude on Saturday 19th July.
Everyday Robots is out now on Parlophone.
