Melbournites might be familiar with the voice of the exquisite Genevieve Blackmore a.k.a. Genny B a.k.a. co-host of RRR’s Livewire on Saturday nights. Well if her uncanny ability to create a pun has made you so much as chuckle, you can now pay her back.
You see, Genny B has cancer. You don’t have to have cancer to know that it sucks. You feel rubbish and there are lots of pretty awful treatments that end up costing a small fortune.
There isn’t much we can do about the awful treatments, short of sending lots of love her way, but there is something we can do about the fiscal burden at Gen Fest 2012 – A Fun Raiser for Genny B. on Thursday, 16 February. It’s not just about raising money for Gen, it’s also about digging some great music.
“It’s truly humbling,” Blackmore told Noise11. “It also makes me feel incredibly lucky to be a part of our supportive music community. After such an exhaustive year of remaining stoic in my misguided independence, it’s fucking wonderful to release myself into the arms of Gen Fest 2012 and simply breathe.
“The funds raised are going to lift a massive weight off my shoulders and the love vibes I’m receiving from all this shall sustain me endlessly.”
The line up responsible for bringing the fun is (in alphabetical order):
AIH (Architecture in Helsinki) DJs
Alan Brough (Spicks and Specks)
Chapter Music DJs
Dan Kelly
Dan Luscombe (The Drones)
Davey Lane (You Am I/The Pictures)
Glenn Richards (Augie March)
Jess McGuire (RRR Breakfasters)
Teeth and Tongue (solo)
Trifekta Records DJs
“Where can we get tickets to this marvellous event?” I hear you asking. I’m glad you asked. You can get them by clicking here.
In the meantime, tune into Livewire on RRR to hear Genny B and her co-host Pauly P on Saturday nights from 10pm to midnight. That’s 102.7FM or 3RRR Digital in Melbourne and www.rrr.org.au elsewhere.
