Daniel Lanois has revealed the first new music from this upcoming ‘Flash and Machine’.
The haunting ‘Iceland’ is reminiscent of the early Lanois work with Brian Eno.
The video comes with imagery from director Jim McKay, who has worked on Treme, The Wire and Big Love,
“What a wonderful surprise to have my music elevated by this beautiful Jim McKay film,” Lanois said in a statement. “A striking one camera, one shot, no edits journey through the imagination of a young girl dancing in a forest setting. The origin of this music was a one take performance by Brian Blade on drums with me on piano. Jim’s one shot reflects this perfectly. My sound manipulations are then visually echoed by the visual manipulations added to Jim’s work by my colourist friend, Adam Vollick. A sweet little film with a big emotional result. Thank you, Jim.”
Daniel Lanois has produced albums for Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Peter Gabriel, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, and Brandon Flowers as well as U2’s ‘The Joshua Tree’
‘Iceland’ will feature on ‘Flesh and Machine’, his first album since ‘Black Dub’ in 2010. The album will be released on ANTI through Warner on October 24.
