History was created at Melbourne Recital Centre on Friday night when Australian legend Daryl Braithwaite sang his iconic hit ‘The Horses’ with the lady who wrote the song, Rickie Lee Jones.

Despite the enormous success of Braithwaite’s version of ‘The Horses’ in Australia and the numerous times Rickie Lee has toured Australia, this was not only the first time they have sung the song together. It was also the first time they met.

Rickie Lee Jones wrote ‘The Horses’ for her 1989 album ‘Flying Cowboys’ with the album’s producer Walter Becker, of Steely Dan. The Jones version was never a single but would later be used for the soundtrack of the movie Jerry Maguire.

Daryl Braithwaite covered the song for his 1990 album ‘Rise’. The album reached no 3 in Australia and was certified 4x platinum.

Daryl Braithwaite joined Rickie Lee Jones for the historic moment five songs into her set at Melbourne Recital Centre on Friday 7 April 2017.

Rickie Lee Jones is in Australia for Bluesfest and touring Australia presented by Noise11.com.
