According to Brian Setzer, Dave Edmunds is retiring after this weekend.
Setzer took to his Facebook page late Friday (July 21) afternoon and said that Edmunds had flown in to play his final two shows with him:
Its with bittersweet announcement that my good friend and guitar legend Dave Edmunds is retiring after tomorrow night’s show.
He produced the early Stray Cats albums that spawned Runaway Boys, Stray Cat Strut, Rock This Town, (Sexy) & 17, and I Won’t Stand in Your Way.
He flew in to Finland to play his final two shows with me. I wish Dave all the love in the world in his retirement!
Setzer is currently in Finland with shows in Seinajoki tonight and Lahti tomorrow.
If this is truly Edmund’s final shows, he leaves and amazing musical legacy including the bands Love Sculpture and Rockpile and a solo career that produced such great singles as I Hear You Knockin’, Baby I Love You, Born to Be With You, I Knew the Bride, Girl’s Talk, Queen of Hearts, Slipping Away and Almost Saturday Night. Among the artists for which he has produced albums are the Stray Cats, Foghat, the Flamin’ Groovies, k.d. lang, the Everly Brothers, Status Quo and the Fabulous Thunderbirds.
