Dave Lombardo has a new temporary gig.
Lombardo will join original Misfits members Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only for their reunion shows, the first time they’ve played together since 1983. Also in the band is Doyle Wolfgang van Frankenstein who joined the Misfits in 1980, three years after their formation.
Danzig teased the announcement by saying that their selected member was his “favorite drummer”. Lombardo was a co-founding member of Slayer but left the band in 1991 only to return from 2001 to 2013. He also played with Grip, Inc., Fantomas, Testament and Suicidal Tendencies along with other projects.
While Lombardo seems to be a bit out of left field for the Misfits, he told Rolling Stone “The Misfits created the horror punk attitude and had a massive influence on modern rock, punk and metal.
Only added, “I think the darker side of punk we created with the Misfits spawned the growth and evolution of punk into thrash, and sired bands like Metallica and Slayer, just as we inspired countless others in the punk revolution.”
Look for the reunited Misfits at Riotfest & Rodeo in Denver on September 4 at 8:40 on the Riot Stage and Riotfest & Carnival in Chicago on September 18 at 8:45 on the Riot Stage.
