The Afghan Whigs have been rocked by the diagnosis of guitarist Dave Rosser with inoperable colon cancer.
Rosser joined the Afghan Whigs after they reformed in 2012 and had previously played with such artists as the Gutter Twins and the Twilight Singers.
The band are planning two benefits for Rosser where they will perform their album Black Love which is just having its 20th anniversary.
The first show is Saturday, December 10 at The Civic in New Orleans with special guests Mark Lanegan, Ani DiFranco, Morning 40 Federation, King James & The Special Men, and C.C. Adcock & The Lafayette Marquis.
They then will go to Los Angeles for a December 14 show at the Teragram Ballroom with guests Mark Lanegan, Moby and Carina Round.
The Afghan Whig’s co-founder Greg Dulli said “Dave Rosser has been my close friend and bandmate for over a decade now. By doing these shows for him we hope to ease any financial stress he may face as he pursues treatment to combat his illness. 100% of the proceeds from these shows will go to his medical care. I’m hopeful that folks will come out and show their support for Dave who will be performing with us.
A GoFundMe page has also been established to help in defraying Rosser’s medical costs.
